Ohio Turnpike drivers will see a new item among the snack food and soda at service plaza convenience stores — E-ZPass devices.
The palm-sized devices, called transponders, could go on sale as soon as April 1, says turnpike Executive Director Rick Hodges.

These stuff are GREAT! They save you so much time. If you travel often this is a GREAT thing to have.

For those traveling into NY, it is worth the $1/month fee to get a NY or NJ EZ-Pass as there are discounts on the bridges into NY City, and if you join the carpool plan (for free), there is and additional discount for going through the cash lane and and telling the attendant you are using ‘carpool’.

There is an easy and perfectly legal way to save the initial sign-up fee and the monthly charge, Under E-Z Pass policy, each state sets their own rates for participation in the program and anyone can sign-up for E-Z Pass through any state they wish, whether they are a resident in that state or not.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation does not charge a set-up or monthly fee. They merely require that you maintain a minimum balance of $20 on your E-Z Pass account (by credit card) and they’ll boost it back to 20 every time your balance dips below $10.
