There are a number of people in the community who subscribe to the PJ Library program and receive books each month. Recently, we received a book about Sammy the Spider and Simchas Torah. Unfortunately, one of the drawings shows people in shul with an open Torah scroll, and Hashem’s name is clearly written there in Hebrew.
People should either be very careful when done with the book to properly dispose of it or, I suppose, to cut out that section and add it to their shaimos. In any case, it should be handled properly.
In general, all Jewish content, even ones you aren’t interested in, and especially non-Orthodox content, should be checked quickly for shaimos before discarding (in my opinion). I have found Hashem’s name in the Jewish News (including their special issues, etc….) and other similar sources. (Ed: Ask you LOR for detailed halachos in shemos disposal.)

I stopped subscribing. I have found that a lot of the content is not appropriate even if the authors are Jewish.
