Police in University Heights are cracking down on people using their cellphones while driving.
The city’s new ordinance states no one can use a cellphone to talk or text behind the wheel.
A driver is allowed to use a voice-operated or hands-free device.
For a first offense, a person will be fined $100; a second offense $250; any others after that will be fined $500.
People in violation will start being cited on July 15.

Have recently seen UH Police stop/write tickets for 2 people using cell phones: One at a stop sign, and once at a red light where someone was using a cell phone RIGHT NEXT to the police car! Please drive safely.

When are they going to ban kids from cars? Why not? This is where the big government is going. So someone is on the phone at the stop sign, big deal. If they were driving and on the phone and caused an accident that’s another story.
