Clarification says
Are the schools accepting these vouchers as a payment towards the agreed upon tuition, or are they going to accept the vouchers and still charge the same tuition?
I other words, is it worth the hassle for the parents sake? Or is this just a chessed for the schools?
in response says
Clarification why does it matter to be honest either way it should allow for lower tuition the schools overall should get more money. Help the schools. It should help you anyways.
Ohio Agudah says
In order to apply you will need to send all of these to the Ohio Dept. of Education:
Completed EdChoice Scholarship Application Form
Copy of student’s birth certificate
Copy of current utility bill
Completed Income Verification Form
Supporting income documents
Ohio Agudah says
In response to clarification:
1. The school must accept the voucher as full tuition (not incl. fees) for the voucher student if a family is earning income of 200% of poverty level or lower. The rest of the tuition for that student must be covered by the chesed of members of the community who support your school.
2. I strongly urge anyone with questions to call the school of your choice or contact me directly rather than use this online forum.
Clarification says
“In response”, the article clearly says “your child may be eligible to attend a private school of your choice for $0 tuition!” I just wanted to clarify.
After your response, I did a little research. I looked at the form which is linked in this article. The form says “I will apply for any and all financial aid or tuition discounts and adjustments made regularly available to the students attending the school in which the student is attending.”
It also says “If my income is over 200 percent of the federal poverty level, I may be responsible for paying any difference between the scholarship amount and the tuition of the chartered nonpublic”
According to this, it would seem that as long as your income falls into the 200% poverty level, which is listed on the chart in this article, then the school will not be allowed to charge any additional tuition fees. School will be 100% tuition free.
Free tuition is a great program! Thanks Agudah!!
City Friend says
How is it then that a school can take the vouchers and still charge tuition?
Is thet Fair? is it legal?
please clarify
wondering says
Ohio Agudah clearly stated “the school must accept the voucher as full tuition”. This may not lower the total amount of tuition you pay because the tuition committee can just raise the amount you pay for other children in your family (not in KG) keeping the total the same….
Clarification says
Wondering,
That would be dishonest and probably illegal. I cannot imagine that a school who we entrust with the chinuch of our children would act in such a dishonest way.
wondering says
clarification –
people who qualify for ‘school vouchers’ are most likely already getting a tuition break based on their low income. so say a family’s full tuition bill comes to $40,000 for 4 children and the tuition committee decides that they are able to afford a lump sum of $15,000 ($25,000 scholarship), now that they have a child entering KG does that mean they pay $15,000 less the voucher? probably not because they are already getting a huge tuition break. this would not be illegal or dishonest because the school can say that the $15,000 will be applied to the other 3 children’s tuition. so if there are other children in the family there might be no gain but the school will gain. if a family has only one child in KG they won’t have to pay any tuition!

Wondering,
I understand what you are saying, but I doubt that is legal. The application clearly states “I will apply for any and all financial aid or tuition discounts and adjustments made regularly available to the students attending the school in which the student is attending.”
It would seem that the school has to first figure out how much tuition the family has to pay, and then accept this voucher as payment.
Your logic might seem valid. But it is really more like “Yeshivishe Shtick”. This program is there to help the families pay tuition. It is not there just to help the school bring in more money. Id the family ends up paying the same amount, that defeats the whole purpose of the program.
I understand why a school would want to do it your way, but is that legal? Is that what the program was intended for?

Bravo Republicans!
People should be free to choose whatever school without any kind of poverty or income qualifications. Freedom for all! Vouchers for all will certainly put the teacher union bosses into hot seats.
