Why would anyone want to defend a guilty party
If they violated a law they should be punished
why are we tolerating people getting away with crimes? I just dont get it
US law allows for a court assigned lawyer for the defendant in many types of cases. Why? Because a lawyer is not to just get people off the hook. He makes sure that people receive due process, know their rights, and receive a fair trial and have a fair chance to explain themselves. So too here. So too here. What if someone was unfairly targeted and they were not speeding? Maybe they have a special consideration that is being ignored in sentencing? Maybe that traffic sign was not fairly placed? I could go on… In short, the only reason to have a lawyer is not to just find a way to walk.
Because American law like halachah has many nuances. Also consider the fact that someone may not be guilty just because they were charged or there may be mitigating factors that change the result. Otherwise we should just dispense with the entire court process and allow a policeman to write a ticket and just haul someone to jail without requiring proof.
