When you eat your first kezais of challah in the sukkah on the first night of Yom Tov- the important things to keep in mind.
This was based on a shiur by Rabbi Boruch Hirschfeld, shlita and composed by a community member l’ilui nishmas Menachem Mendel ben Nasan Nota and Shaindel Riva bas Yisroel Nason Nota HaCohen.
Requests were made for an English Translation which appears below:
Intentions to have on the first night of Sukkos
1) Mitzvah of Holy convocation, Yom Tov (and Sabbath) Meal
2) Fulfillment of verse, “In booths you shall dwell 7 days”- mitzvah of dwelling in the sukkah
3) Fulfillment of verse, “In order that your generations will know that in sukkahs I (Hashem) made Bnai Yisroel dwell” – remembrance of of the departure from Egypt and the clouds of glory. (Added – not in Hebrew: To remember the the miracles and wonderss of Hashem, and that He is the sole power in the world’ (per Tur O.C. 625))
4) Recollection of the connection of the holidays of Pesach and Sukkos via scriptural connection, derived connection between the mitzvah of the eating matzah and the eating in the sukkah
5) Mitzvah of being joyful on the Holidays
