On Thursday night, several dozen young professionals gathered for an exciting kick-off event of the young leadership committee of Agudath Israel in Cleveland. The event, hosted by Amir and Edna Jaffa, featured Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Bill Batchelder and Speaker Pro Tempore Matt Huffman. Both elected officials delivered powerful messages about the importance of being engaged in the political process and taking on positions of leadership in one’s own community and beyond. They stressed how each person can make a difference in the school choice effort by publicizing positive effects these policies have had on the local community. The function was an opportunity for participants to personally thank the elected officials for their roles in expanding Ohio’s voucher programs that help many students in Cleveland attend Jewish day schools.
Prior to introducing the guest speakers, Rabbi A. D. Motzen made two exciting announcements. The first one dealt with Agudath Israel of Cleveland’s decision to add Moshe Tohn and Dovid Malcmacher, the organizers of the evening’s event, to their board of directors. Both will serve as vice presidents on the board.
Rabbi Motzen then introduced Rabbi Yitz Frank as the new Ohio director for Agudath Israel of America. Rabbi Frank will begin his duties at the end of the month.
“The room was cracking with electricity,” said David Farkas, Esq., one of the attendees. “We were all excited to hear about Rabbi Frank’s appointment. The elected officials’ remarks inspired everyone to want to make a difference. It is our job now to put those feelings into action.”
