At 11 AM Thursday Morning, with everyone’s turkeys prepared and baking in the oven, an enthusiastic group of women originally from the former Soviet Union gathered at the home of Channah Appel in Beachwood, to bake Chanukah cookies for the mothers and children at the Jewish Shelter Home. This home is currently full to capacity, and is a project of the Cleveland Jewish Federation.
The ladies went together with JWRP (Jewish Womens Renaissance Program) to Israel this past summer through Aish HaTorah, with Rebbetzen Appel, and had the time of their lives. “The friendships formed were the closest imaginable”, Says Appel, “the women have continued getting together socially, for Shabbat meals, and some have joined local synagogues and Hebrew school programs.
The group has grown as other Russian friends have joined, and they have organized classes for children ages 5-10, teens, college students and adults, challah baking programs, lectures on Ethical dilemmas and more. For information please contact Cappel@aish.com or Channah Appel 216-321-7277 ext.23
