As the world continues to witness ugly incidents of verbal and physical attacks against Jews, Agudath Israel of America has been deeply engaged in encouraging, through various means, our government, and others, to strongly condemn this sharp increase in open and unabashed anti-Semitism. We have been in ongoing communication with the Obama Administration, particularly Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, Ira Forman, and we continue to make our concerns known to our elected officials in the House and Senate.
Further to these activities, we want to bring to your attention an important House resolution, introduced by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), that, among other things, “unequivocally condemns all forms of anti-Semitism,” and rejects attempts to justify anti-Jewish hatred or violence, as well as the comparison of Israel to Nazis, as acceptable political expression. It further urges the Secretary of State to “maintain the fight against anti-Semitism as a United States foreign policy priority,” to call upon foreign governments to ensure that adequate laws are in place to punish anti-Semitic violence, and to oppose all efforts to prevent any individual from freely exercising their religion without fear of prosecution or violence.
This is a time our community must speak up. A resolution condemning anti-Semitism deserves strong bipartisan support, especially at this time. We therefore urge you to contact your representative and encourage him or her to support this resolution. To contact your representative, please call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 225-3121 and ask to be connected to your representative’s office, where you can convey your message or obtain other contact information (e.g. email address, fax, or district office phone number).
