Turf and Torah (TnT) is a Jewish Flag Football league in Cleveland. The goal is to engage Jewish men in the camaraderie of sportsmanship and Torah discussion.
When: The league will meet weekly Sunday mornings from 9-11 AM, Starting Sept. 14th, for eight weeks.
Cost: $60 Dollars this season. That helps to pay for TnT shirts, weekly refs, field costs, flags, etc. Any additional funds left over will be donated to a Jewish organization. The league champions will be able to choose that organization .
Sign ups: Sign ups will be held Sept 7th, 9-11 AM at the Acacia metro park (Parking lot on Cedar Road). League fees are due at the time of sign up. We will have bagels and footballs to toss around. If you are interested and can not make the sign up please let us know via email.
Where: TBD (We have a few fields narrowed down on the east side of Cleveland). Family is welcome to come and cheer on the games.
Torah: As a part of this league, there will be a weekly Torah discussion session for 15-30 minutes. The discussion will be geared towards how lessons from the Torah relate to our daily lives.
Team structure: Our goal is to start with four – six team’s of 8-10 people per team. The teams will be created after sign ups and communicated prior to the first week’s game. You will be able to request to be on a team with 2-3 additional people.
Captains: We are currently looking for captains. The captain will be responsible for the following:
- Initial development of teams (meeting to be scheduled between Sept 7th and 14th)
- Communicating league rules to their team.
- Ensuring enough people are committed to play any given Sunday
- Communicating scheduling changes to their teams (Rain outs)
- Acting as the team leader and holding their team to the highest sportsmanship standards
First four people to respond to this email expressing interest in being a captain, will be captain.
We are extremely excited to get this season kicked off. Looking forward to a great new Cleveland organization that will become a tradition for years to come!
