The Jewish Federation of Cleveland (JFC) has an immediate opening for a Resource & Activities Coordinator.
General Overview of the Position:
Using a consumer-oriented approach, the Resource and Activities Coordinator plans, promotes, encourages and organizes activities that address the physical, social and emotional concerns of resident senior citizens to empower seniors to exercise choice and control over their lives and to live independently. This position plans and coordinates activities of socialization, provides information and referral, and acts as an advocate when needed. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal communication skills, knowledge of marketing and event planning, and familiarity with computers. Must be a self-starter.
This position reports to the Managing Director of Community Services. This is a part-time (50% FTE) position with some weekends and evenings for special events.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain regular contact with senior residents
- Identify potential leaders and develop their leadership skills
- Empower seniors to become an effective leadership group capable of directing the program
- Follow up with residents (phone calling)
- Create programs that appeal to the senior adults and provide activities of socialization for well-elderly as well as the isolated or disabled elderly
- Devise programs that help the senior adults access affordable services
- Develop evaluation criteria and method
- Develop cooperative relations with other community organizers/providers for resource sharing
- Provide information and referral to senior adults and their families
- Use economics of scale to broker more affordable services for senior residents
- Empower senior adults to make positive choices which meet their needs
- Assess senior resident satisfaction with services provided
- Monitor service plans, delivery and cost
- Write and distribute quarterly newsletter
- Create promotional flyers
- Fundraising for Friends Drive
Recordkeeping:
- Maintain and update senior resident profiles
- Provide reports on activities of socialization
- Provide database statistics, e.g. activities, service requests, service referrals, etc.
- Maintain records on outcome and quality of service provided
- Maintain reports on membership dues, activity fees, service fees and other financial matters associated with the program
- Develop and maintain a database on all available service providers, types of services provided, cost of services, requirements for access
- Update database, as needed
Desired Skills and Experience:
Education, Training and/or Experience
- Degree in Social Work or equivalent in a related field
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license
- Previous experience working with seniors a plus
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and with internet use
- Understanding and experience with software programs needed to effectively manage this program including Excel, Microsoft Word, and Publisher
- Well-developed customer service and inter-personal skills
- Use sound, independent judgment within established guidelines
- Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with seniors in a personable and professional manner
- Maintain a high level of energy and a consistent positive attitude

Nature of work requires some physical demands, e.g. room set-up, moving furniture, grocery shopping, carrying items.
