The city wants to make more zero-interest loans available, and allow more businesses to receive grants to help spruce up their spaces.
Through the city’s current storefront renovation program, owners can apply for a zero-interest loan to cover half the cost to improve their businesses, up to $25,000; and businesses in certain commercial areas may receive a rebate to cover up to 50 percent, as much as $25,000. There’s also a $2,000 rebate for signage on significant projects.
Economic Development Director Greg Zucca asked City Council members Tuesday to increase the maximum loan to 60 percent of the total cost, up to $100,000, and make rebates available to businesses in all commercial districts.
