Water rates for the average Cleveland Heights residential customer will rise by 21 percent — from $53.79 to $65.04 a month — starting Aug. 1.
In addition, water service fees for commercial customers will increase from $10 to between $20 and $68, depending on the size of their meters. Service fees for residents now paying $10 a month will not change.
City Manager Tanisha Briley said the rate and fee hikes, which she announced Monday night, are interim measures that will cap — and might start to reduce — a projected $3.7 million deficit in the city’s water system. However, it won’t eliminate the deficit.
