(Press release)
Local entrepreneurs seeking storefront space can apply to compete in the Win-Win Business Challenge, a small-business education program and grant competition that will help drive development in the Chagrin-Lee area of Shaker Heights.
A total of $20,000 in grant funding – a combined $10,000 from the city of Shaker Heights and $10,000 from Huntington Bank – will be awarded to the winner or winners for purchases and capital improvements to an office or retail space in the Chagrin-Lee area.
Available properties in the Chagrin-Lee area include offices, vintage and historic spaces and possibilities for adaptive reuse of former service and garage facilities as large as 4,000 square feet.
The city of Shaker Heights and the Economic and Community Development Institute, a statewide Small Business Association lender, are partners in the Win-Win Business Challenge. Up to 10 finalists will participate in ECDI’s four-week Small Enterprise Education Development training program while receiving site selection assistance from city economic development professionals and support from a designated mentor in developing a business pitch.
A review committee comprising industry professionals and community stakeholders will select one or more winners, based on the strength of their applications, business pitches and plans to locate in Chagrin-Lee.
