There has been a big trend lately to move from home phone service with AT&T or Time Warner and instead to utilize an internet based service through a 3rd party provider. This can mean a change from over $45 per month to as little as $3.
Our family moved over to Ooma more than a year ago and we have been really happy with the service. Quality of the line is the same as a regular phone line and the phone comes loaded with all the great options like caller ID, waiting, etc. It even has special features like checking your voice mail online or getting a text notification of a message.
If you sign up by the end of the day on January 31st, you can buy it for just $99 straight from Amazon >>
Or you can buy it directly from Oooma >> The advantage of buying directly from Oooma is that you can easily switch over your phone line and learn about other services that they offer.
It is really easy to check voice mail via phone or via your computer or phone and phone quality is great. Also, see an article from Consumer Reports in which it receives very high ratings.

I have WOW now and also the phone is through the internet but it costs me somewhere around $90 a month. Please elaborate a bit how you’re getting your internet service and what the total phone and internet is costing you a month? Thanks!

We have AT&T home internet under their fiber optic service – Uverse. Costs about $49 for their middle speed/ high speed option. We used to have home phone under At&t for I think around $29 per month. We bought the Ooma, set it up and tested it with the free phone line and new # that it comes with. We did not yet cancel the AT&T phone service. Then we put in a port request with Ooma and then waited a few days. Then they notified us that our previous home # now goes to the Ooma phone which costs us $3 per month. So then we cancelled AT&T phone and kept just internet – $49. The Ooma box allows us to plug in our regular house phone to the box as though it were a standard phone jack. Quality is excellent. I like that I can check my voice mail easily from any computer or smart phone or through the phone itself. A few month ago we wanted to move the house phone away from where it was plugged into the internet box so we purchased an Ooma wireless jack that will allow us to plug in the phone anywhere in the house. There are other internet based phone services that are cheaper but we went for Ooma due to easy of setup and reliability.
