I think it would be helpful if someone could answer the question above – what agency? A mashgiach should not be employed by the one he is supervising… (comment edited)
Rabbi Grunwald happens to also be one of the mashgichim for Cleveland Kosher – but the Kashrus supervision of Unger’s in NOT under the Cleveland Kosher Agency; it is not under any agency.
Could a representative of Cleveland Kosher please comment on whether or not they can recommend the Kashrus of the establishment in question? Let’s make sure that the record is set straight from the beginning by the city’s Vaad HaKashrus. Thank you.
UNGERS BAKERY IS UNDER RABBI GRUNWALDS PRIVATE HASHGACHA AND IT IS NOT A AGENY. AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLEVELAND KOSHER AND CLEVELAND KOSHER HAS NOTHING TO WITH UNGERS AT ALL.
I am not implying that this is the case here, but one problem with having an individual responsible for Kashrus of an establishment versus a community Vaad haKashrus, backed by the community’s Vaad haRabbiem is “Who’s watching the watcher?” Again, I am not implying that is the case here.I just don’t know who the Rav HaMachshir is in this case is and I would feel better if Cleveland Kosher or another respected agency would vouch for his credentials. I do not believe that asking questions of the level of standards of a supervising agency is wrong. I am just making sure that the level of Kashrus is at least that of my family’s level of Kashrus. Or if not, it’s important to be aware of the issues. Kashrus is a very complicated inyan and there are many issues, traditions, customs, machmirim and makielim issues.
inorder for ungers to have a proper hashgacha they need a mashgiach there 24/6, so maybe found out if they have a mashgiach temidi and post it on localjewisnews. thank you!
Disagree. It is not the role of Cleveland Kosher to comment on the level of kashrus of an establishment, mashgiach or agency. They may post warnings like “check the peppers you’re buying at heinen’s are not from
EY” or “the barley from Unger’s has been found to have bugs”. Each person can ask their Rav what they do or don’t recommend. While Rabbi Grunwald is reliable, an establishment hiring their own private mashgiach is NOT!
Curious says
Hasn’t Rabbi Grunwald been the mashgiach for years? What exactly is “new”?
response says
The previous hashgacha was under Rabbi Blum
Which agency? says
Is he part of Cleveland Kosher?

Also Curious says
Why is Rabbi Blum no longer providing hashgacha? Why is Cleveland Kosher not responding and providing certification?
