The kosher hot dog stand at Progressive Field, a once-groundbreaking effort to serve the dietary needs of shomer kashrut baseball fans, temporarily closed last weekend – or at least is temporarily not under rabbinic supervision.
Rabbi Shimon Gutman of Cleveland Kosher said that there was a “glitch or mistake” in which the space was used during Shabbat. The stand is only supposed to be open for Sunday through Thursday games. He couldn’t say what it was used for, because he wasn’t there due to Shabbat.
“I don’t know what they sold or how they sold it,” Gutman said. “In order to be kosher certified, it’s required to have independent verification that there’s a continuity of kosher. The only way to certify that is we are there every time the stand is open.”
