“My pregnant daughter-in-law was walking home from the gym (Cedar & Lee) this past weekend and noticed that she was being followed by 3 young boys, approximately 10-12 years old. They followed her for quite a while, and veered off when she turned to look at them. Finally, around Staunton and Cummings, the youngest one ran up to her and grabbed her inappropriately. She turned and yelled at them and they scattered. We are sure that this was a silly little boy prank, but it was totally inappropriate.
With all the serious crime in this city, she chose not to call the police. This was mid-day! Our concern is that this type of behavior can quickly escalate into something worse and could have turned out to be a disaster; what if she had lost her balance when she was grabbed? That is easy to do when you are startled, much less 6 months pregnant! Her husband and I have convinced her to carry mace when she is out walking; with summer in full swing, who knows what else may happen. We hear all the time about people being assaulted for their cell phones…
Be aware of your surroundings and walk with your ears and eyes open!”
