Update:
LJN has confirmed that a carjacking did occur on November 22 on Elmdale Rd in University Heights, to a woman in our community. The police report can be found at http://webreports.taccomputer.net/policeReport/pdfs/52/I1618034.PDF.
It’s important to be reminded that–even though no weapon was believed to have been used in these carjackings–no material possessions are worth risking your life for.

Communication from Jim Newbrough, Menorah Park CEO:
There have been increased incidents of carjackings in Cleveland and yesterday in Beachwood, specifically on Belvoir Boulevard and David Myers Parkway according to a local news station.
In both cases, they reported someone bumped a car from behind. When the driver got out of the car to check for damage, the suspect jumped in and took the car.
As a result of this incident, we have proceeded to increase security visibility and rounds by all campus building Security Officers. The Beachwood Police have also increased patrols of our campus. In addition, the local Jewish Federation Security Vehicles will be patrolling our campus as well.
I would ask that everyone remain vigilant and mindful of your surroundings, and immediately contact the Beachwood Police and Menorah Park Security if you see any suspicious vehicle or activity. We are taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of our campus residents, tenants, clients, family members, volunteers, visitors and staff.
Scared in UH says
So much crime in University Heights this year. Shootings, carjackings, breakins, drugs, all happening in our community. Why is nothing being done to stop this? Does someone need to be killed before the City does something to protect us? I cant even take my kids to Gearity on Shabbos anymore because its not safe!

What’s not safe about Gearity on Shabbos? I haven’t heard anything. Thanks.
