The OU does not differentiate their hechsher for “dairy” vs “dairy equipment”—they both will have an “OU-D” label. It is up to the consumer to verify the actual ingredients as to whether or not something is “dairy” or “dairy equipment.” It is a good idea to check the ingredient list regularly as product formulations may change.
It is also important to note that a “May contain milk” statement does not necessarily mean the product is “dairy” as the regulations for allergy statements are not the same as, and are often stricter than, the laws of kashrus. However, the best way to know with certainty what the status is of any food product is to contact the kashrus agency directly.
