Out With the Old, in With the New…DOUBLE the Value
July 8thth begins a special week for Bikur Cholim of Cleveland, the organization that provides meals, visitation, equipment, and many other services for the sick. Tagged #pushkaweek on social media, this movement is all about making room in your home for a new, unique pushka. The pushka, specially designed for Bikur Cholim of Cleveland, will be distributed by community volunteers in an effort aimed at getting one pushka into every Cleveland home.
“This week is not about asking people for money,” said Rabbi Joseph, BC Director of Development, “it’s really about distributing our new pushka. We want every household to have one!”
There is more to the story than that, though. During #pushkaweek the community is encouraged to turn in all old, filled pushkas for a special promotion; the value of pushka contents will be DOUBLED from July 8thth through July 15th, resulting in higher donation power to fuel the compassionate work of Bikur Cholim. This special opportunity is a tribute to the memory of Mendy Klein, A”H, who was a uniquely creative giver, as well as a close friend and supporter of Bikur Cholim.
Watch the story unfold by following the hashtag #pushkaweek on social media. And don’t forget to claim your new pushka… and turn in your old one!

Recognizing Signs of Heat-Related Illness
In the past few days, there have been multiple instances of heat-related medical emergencies in the local frum community.
These tips from CDC’s Extreme Heat Media Kit can help you prevent heat-related illnesses,
injuries, and deaths during hot weather.
Stay cool. Keep your body temperature cool to avoid heat-related illness.
- Stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible.
- Find an air-conditioned shelter.
- Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device.
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Take cool showers or baths.
- Check on those most at-risk twice a day.
Stay hydrated. Because your body loses fluids through sweat, you can become
dehydrated during times of extreme heat.
- Drink more water than usual.
- Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink more fluids.
- Drink from two to four cups of water every hour while working or exercising outside.
- Avoid alcohol or liquids containing high amounts of sugar.
- Remind others to drink enough water.
Stay informed. Stay updated on local weather forecasts so you can plan activities
safely when it’s hot outside.
- Check local news for extreme heat alerts and safety tips.
- Learn the symptoms of heat illness.

New Mincha Minyan at University Heights’ Mens-Only Night
For the remainder of the men’s only Monday nights at the University Heights pool (except during the nine days), there will be a Mincha around 5 minutes after the start of the first rest period, which sometimes begins at 7:30pm and more often begins at 7:45pm. Attendees should plan on bringing whatever attire they consider appropriate, and preferably a siddur as well. This will allow men/boys to stay until pool closing at 8:45pm and still not miss Mincha.

Presenting Bikur Cholim’s Fourth Business of the Month: Mika’s Wig Boutique!
The emotional repercussions of a woman losing her hair are life-altering. When Michelle Kaminsky was diagnosed with alopecia, she struggled to find a way to restore her dignity. She felt alone and overwhelmed, with no one she could truly trust to help her.
The Mika Mission
Michelle felt passionately that no woman should ever have to go through what she did. She founded her salon as a place where wig-wearing women would be treated with dignity and respect, where every budget would be accommodated, and no one would ever be judged. Today, Mika’s Salon is known as a fun and friendly place where staff and customers are treated like family.
Community Partnership
Michelle is passionate about helping and empowering the sick and vulnerable, and she is proud to partner with Bikur Cholim of Cleveland as Business of the Month. Her support for Bikur Cholim is an expression of her deeply felt commitment to community and compassion.
