We regret to inform you of the passing of Sara Taub, mother of Dena Rappaport, Shimshi, Baruch, and Ahuva Taub. Mrs. Taub started Cleveland Yachad thirty years ago. She was loved by everyone who knew her.

The levaya will be tomorrow, Wednesday, at 2:30pm, at Berkowitz Kumin. Kevura will be at the Young Israel section of Mount Olive Cemetery, 27855 Aurora Road
Solon, OH 44139.

Update – The levaya will be broadcast at www.bitly.com/largechapel.

Mincha will be at the cemetery and Maariv at 9pm at Mrs. Taub’s house 3682 Shannon Road, Cleveland Heights. During the week of shiva, Shacharis will be at 7am, Mincha/Maariv will be at 4:50pm, and Sunday Shacharis will be at 8am.

Shiva hours will be posted when available.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Moshe Reuven Barkin, z”l. The Cleveland levaya will be today, November 13th at 12 noon at Telshe Yeshiva.

The NJ levaya will take place tonight, Monday evening, at 9:15 pm in the Sons of Israel Chapel, 613 Ramsey Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701.

Call-in number for both is 218-548-1882 then PIN 28400#.

Shiva Information

Tuesday morning shiva will be at the Biegeleisen residence, 45 Drake Rd Lakewood, NJ 08701.

Shacharis is at 8am.

The family will be sitting until 11:30 am and then returning to Cleveland. Cleveland shiva information will be posted separately when it’s available.

Mincha will be at the home at 4:50pm followed by Maariv.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbanit Esther Bensoussan, z”l, mother of Rabbi Avraham Bensoussan. Kevurah will be in Tzfat, Israel today. Rabbi Bensoussan will be sitting shiva beginning today, Sunday, at 1:00 pm through tomorrow night at 3777 Berkeley Road in  Cleveland  Heights.

Mincha will be at the home at 4:50pm today and tomorrow followed by Maariv.

Monday shacharis is 7:15am. Mincha/maariv is at 4:57pm.

Empire Issues Recall of Certain Chicken Breasts

From the Empire Kosher website:

Empire Kosher® is committed to producing the highest quality products and our top priority is the safety of our consumers. Unfortunately, due to an equipment malfunction certain of our boneless chicken breast products have the potential to contain a piece of extraneous material contamination. Out of an abundance of caution we are issuing a voluntary recall for five products with identified sell by dates manufactured in one of our facilities (USDA-FSIS Establishment P-1015). There have been no reports of illness or injury associated with this issue.

The affected lots of Empire Kosher® Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast were distributed to select Costco, select Trader Joe’s, and select Wegmans stores only.  No other retailers received these products.

The affected products and ‘Sell By Dates’ dates that are being recalled are:

Baruch Dayan Ha’Emes – Shua Polonsky, ob”m

With great sadness, shock and pain we inform you of the sudden and untimely passing of Shua Polonsky, ob”m, יהושע רפאל בן הרשל לייב הלוי, a 31 year old beloved husband and father to two young girls, after a sudden brief illness, during which Klal Yisrael of all stripes came together to pray for his recovery.

Shua was the husband of Simi Polonsky, father of Emanuella and Sophia, son of Leonardo and Yocheved Polonsky, grandson of Mel and Marcia Waxman, nephew and cousin of the Larry Waxman family, and friend of all.

Over the past several weeks since he fell ill, Shua fought bravely while his doctors struggled to save his life. Unfortunately, their tireless efforts did not bear fruit, and Shua returned his soul to his maker this afternoon, Thursday, the 20th of Cheshvan.

A Very Public HaKaras HaTov Message

On this last Motzei Shabbos, when most of us were tidying up the house and preparing for bed, Cleveland’s Orthodox Boy Scout Troop, led by Mr. Rob Hartstone, was packing up for an overnight campout. It looked as if might rain.  No matter!  Troop 95 was heading out to brave the elements.  The Scouts were all very excited to be on this adventure.

The Boy Scout motto is “Be Prepared.” And, this Boy Scout Troop was. The boys had been meticulously getting ready for this overnight for weeks. Under Hartstone’s tireless direction, they had thought through what they would need – right down to the Cholov Yisroel milk and Tefillin – and methodically packed everything.

This may not sound like such a big deal, but it is.  If you have teenage boys, imagine their level of enthusiasm for preparing to sleep outside in rainy, 45-degree weather.  Here, we have a group of boys that would not have missed this opportunity for anything.

The Boy Scouts teaches both self-reliance and teamwork.  It builds men out of boys, empowering them to feel confident to take on challenges that might normally intimidate them.  Boys learn to thrive beyond anyone’s expectations in the Scouting program.  When combined with a Torah way of life, the values of Scouting are all the more inspiring for boys to grow into mature, responsible Jewish men.

Rob Hartstone deserves enormous Hakaras HaTov from the entire Cleveland Orthodox community for serving in the role of Boy Scout leader.  He’s providing an extremely valuable service to boys and their families.  Yashar koach, Mr. Hartstone!

Updated Cleveland Tehillim List Now Available

An updated Tehillim List of the Cleveland Tehillim Chevra is now available. This is the second list of 5778.

The list is being published as a partnership between Local Jewish News and Mrs. Chanie Malcmacher in the hope that it will cause even more community members to be mispalel on behalf of those in need. It will continue its practice of approximately six bi-monthly print editions.

In order to maintain seder, the following long-standing guidelines remain in place for the inclusion of a name:

  • The choleh must be a Clevelander or the direct relative of a Clevelander
  • The exactly correct Hebrew name and its correct spelling must be provided
  • Permission of the family must have been obtained
  • The choleh must be reconfirmed for each edition of the list

Currently, the community has the merit of completing the entire Tehillim nearly two times daily. To participate in a daily completion of the Tehillim, please email Mrs. Malcmacher at justdaven@gmail.com.
