Toddler refugee suffers lead poisoning in Cleveland home: Toxic Neglect
(Ed: Including this story as it is unique in showing the risk of lead poisoning in a real-life step-by-step very sad story and it will hopefully encourage the many people who lived in older homes to take extra care when it comes to lead paint. )
CLEVELAND, Ohio– It only took seven months living in a West Side duplex for Haneen Alwaeli, one of the youngest members of Cleveland’s refugee population, to be hospitalized for lead poisoning.
The little girl, less than 2 years old at the time, spent 10 days in the pediatric acute care unit at MetroHealth Medical Center in the summer of 2014, enduring painful injections and IV treatments in an attempt to extract the dangerous heavy metal from her blood.
Kashi Class Action Suit – Worth the Time to Apply
A class action law suit has just been settled and customers who purchased certain Kashi products can get some money back. If you bought these products between May, 08 and and Sept 04, 2015 you can receive $.50 per product, up to $27.50 – this is if you have no documentation. However, if you do have your receipts you may be entitled to a full refund on all of these purchases!
This lawsuit settles a claim against Kashi that they market products as “all natural” or “100% natural” or “nothing artificial” when these claims were not fully true. For more information, a list of items included (See exhibit H) and a way to request your refund, head over to a special web site – HERE. This must be done before January 19th, 2016.

47th Designer Dress Days hosted by National Council of Jewish Women starts Friday: Project THRIFT
(Cleveland.com)
Fashion and philanthropy come together as the National Council of Jewish Women presents the 47th Designer Dress Days beginning this Friday.
The fund-raiser has taken place once a year since 1968 and each year a little magic happens as the event raises even more money.
This event may not fall precisely beneath my Project THRIFT umbrella, it might be more accurate to call it Project RITZY RESALE but it is resale, it’s for a great cause, the prices are unbeatable and the items for sale are amazing.

Henny Machlis: A Truly Great Jewish Woman How did an ordinary Jew from Brooklyn become one of the greatest lights of our times?
(Sarah Yoheved Rigler)
What qualified Henny Machlis, who passed away this past Friday at the age of 58, as one of the world’s greatest Jewish women?
Jerusalemites would say it was her cooking for and serving up to 300 guests every Shabbos in her cramped Jerusalem apartment. The guests – almost 150 for the Shabbat night meal and over 100 for the Shabbat day meal – ranged from curious tourists and university students to lonely widows and singles to drunks and mentally ill people who considered the Machlis family’s love and warmth more delectable than even their ample food.
