How about the zoo on Monday?
(Reader submission, M. Post) Most people don’t think of it in the winter, but the free Mondays at the zoo can be really fun in the winter. The forecast is for 45 degrees and 0% chance of rain, which isn’t so bad. If you are used to going in the summer when it’s wall-to-wall people, you will enjoy being able to take the time to really see what’s going on and interact more with workers than you can in the summer (albeit inside the buildings in most cases). We’ve done winter zoo trips for a number of years at different zoos and found workers are much happier in the winter without all the people and are happy to share information about studies they are doing, habits of the animals, etc… It may be a little more crowded with most public schools also on break, but in other years we could just get on the tram and they would take us anywhere in the zoo we wanted to go.
Remember that the “free” is only for Cuyahoga county residents, so if you have family in from out of town without local IDs, they won’t be covered.

Dear Friends,
A member of our community recently lost his job. He is a Telzer talmid who I know for about 40 years. He is a single parent of 3 sons. He is very “oisek b’tzarchei tzibur.” Any contribution you make is greatly appreciated.
Please make checks payable to R. Boruch Hirschfeld [memo: Attn.: Appeal]. (Ed: Checks can be mailed directly to Rabbi Boruch Hirschfeld at 3699 Shannon Rd., Cleveland Heights, OH 44118).
May Hashem bless you with all that is good and sweet.

Simchas Alta Vita Hachnosas Kallah Evening Reception
Simchas Alta Vita: Restoring Joy, Upholding Dignity
Still enveloped in the halo of her vort just two weeks before, Hadassah hummed to herself as she walked to her room, visions of lacy gowns and cascading flowers swirling in her mind.
Suddenly, she heard her father’s voice.
“I just don’t know how we are going to pull this off,” he was saying to her mother. “We’re maxxed out as it is. I can barely scrape together a down payment for the caterer – never mind sheitels and appliances!” (Learn more … ) [Read more…]

New (8-Week) Adult Jewish Basketball League this January!
The CJBA is a unique 8 week basketball league for Jewish men ages 18+ developed to help recreate your “teenage basketball-team experience”. The league, funded by the Mount Sinai Health Care Foundation will feature 4 teams (unless we get more people than we’re expecting!) facing off in a double round robin tournament, followed by a single elimination playoff- all in 8 consecutive weeks of play.
Games will take place at the Schechter gym at 8pm and 9pm on Monday nights, from January 5 to February 23 and will feature hired referees and statisticians to keep the league organized competitive, and fun.
