A private concealed carry course is being offered for women only on Sunday, December 4th. The course is free of charge (normally runs about $125) and has VERY limited slots available. The instructor will teach about the proper use and handling of fire arms. The class will be approximately 8 hours in length, with two of those hours at the shooting range. Pricing at the range is $15 for admission, $10 to rent a fire arm (unless you have your own) and approximately $6-$12 for 50 rounds of ammunition. Upon completion of the course, participants will be presented with a certificate that they can then use to register and receive licensure for carrying a concealed weapon. Cash award and publication for winners; contest open to middle and high school students
Calling all Cleveland area middle and high school wordsmiths and artists: you are invited to enter the 2017 annual Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah (Cleveland’s commemoration of the Holocaust and heroism) Contest. Essays and works of art are sought that portray this year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Out: Stopping Persecution Then and Now.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to consider the lessons of the Holocaust from a unique perspective and to creatively interpret that point of view through writing and art,” said Richard Rakos, Creative Arts Committee Co-Chair.
Entries will be judged on interpretation of the theme, originality and technique. Cash prizes totaling $2,500 will be awarded. Winners and their schools will be recognized at the Yom Hashoah Commemoration on April 23, 2017 at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple.
The Yom Hashoah Creative Arts Contest and the annual Yom Hashoah Event are sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Kol Israel Foundation.
Deadline for entries is February 14, 2017. For more information and entry forms, visit www.jewishcleveland.org or contact Debbie Klein at the Federation at dklein@jcfcleve.org or 216-593-2834.
