Don’t Forget to Clear Off The Fire Hydrants Too

I noticed that a large number of fire hydrants are covered up or mostly covered up.  When seconds matter, it’s always a good idea to shovel around the fire hydrants to make it easily accessible should it C”VS become necessary. (Ed: Sidewalks too! Don’t forget the kids who aren’t allowed to walk in the street.)

unnamed(4)The Irene Zehman Volunteer Award is presented each year by the Women’s Philanthropy Initiative of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland to an “unsung heroine” – a Jewish woman or group of women whose efforts on behalf of the Cleveland Jewish and/or general community have not been previously recognized, and who demonstrate the highest ideals and practices of volunteer service. Awardee(s) will be presented with a certificate and a check, payable to their favorite charity, at the Women’s Spring Luncheon in May. TLC (To Live with Choice) is a Torah based program of recovery for women dealing with compulsive eating and food addiction.  Join us to learn the secrets of recovery and gain “chizuk” by learning the 13 Steps taught by Rebbetzin Moskowitz (Rabbi Ezriel Tauber’s daughter). With United Airlines dominating Cleveland airport traffic, local travelers usually paid higher fares to reach popular destinations than those choosing to fly out Detroit, Columbus, Pittsburgh and other airports regionally.

In fact, in a destination-by-destination comparison with seven of the closest  airports, Cleveland had the highest or second-highest average fare on a city-to-city basis about three-quarters of the time, the Northeast Ohio Media Group found in going through federal transportation data that tracks fares for the busiest routes.

Case Western Reserve University tests morning shuttle aimed at Heights, Little Italy commuters

Case Western Reserve University is experimenting with a free shuttle bus to serve commuters in Cleveland Heights and Little Italy who are headed to the school during morning rush hours.

The one-month pilot may become permanent if demand exists.

The 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. weekday continuous loop service follows a route similar to the university’s evening shuttle to the Coventry area.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Barbara Goodman, mother of Dr. Chaim Goodman. The funeral will be on Monday. Both the funeral and complete shiva will take place in the Washington, DC area. Dr. Goodman will not be sitting in Cleveland but can be reached by phone, 216-407-9172 or 216-407-8176.

clevelhtsServing on a board or commission is a good way to get involved in your community. Currently, there are openings on a number of boards, including the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, Landmark Commission and the Recreation Advisory Board. Some pay as much as $90 per meeting.

Cleveland Heights has current openings for these commissions and will be appointing these positions in the next few weeks. Please, Cleveland Heights residents, submit your applications ASAP.
