Rabbi Israel Porath, zt”l Remembered On Cleveland Jewish History Website
(The following is from a Letter to the CJN. The website that it is referring to is ClevelandJewishHistory.net which is a very useful resource in studying Cleveland Jewish history.)
I am glad to inform the Cleveland Jewish News and its readers of a new website dedicated to the memory of my grandfather, Rabbi Israel Porath zt”l, who served Cleveland’s Oheb Zedek, N’vai Zedek and Heights Jewish Center for nearly five decades. For many years, as leader of the Orthodox Rabbinical Council (Merkaz Harabbanim), he was regarded as the dean of Cleveland’s Orthodox rabbis.
Family members in Cleveland and in Israel furnished pictures, clippings and stories to Arnold Berger, who used them to create a new section of the Cleveland Jewish History website.

N.H.T.S.A. Investigates 2007-8 Honda Odysseys for Spontaneous Braking Issue
(NY Times)
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating owner complaints of unexpected braking and whether there should be a recall of almost 344,000 Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2007-8 model years. The complaints are similar to those that resulted in the recall of about 183,000 different Honda and Acura models in March.
O-U Presents Top Consumer Questions Received for the Summer
(O-U) Please check with your own LOR for psak on these questions:
OU Kosher presents frequently asked questions to-date on the OU Kosher Hotline (212-613-8241) by consumers received for the summer. Questions may also be submitted to kosherq@ou.org.
1. Q: Can one eat in an ice cream or yogurt store product that has been scooped from a container that bears O-U certification?
A: In some instances, the OU certifies an entire store. In such cases, the OU letter of certification will state that a particular store located in a specific location is under OU supervision. Obviously, one can eat everything in a certified store. However, it is often the case that the OU certifies a brand name ice cream or yogurt, but the OU does not certify the store that sells the product, even though the store has the same brand name as the product. In this latter instance, the OU only certifies sealed containers bearing the OU symbol. Once the container is opened, the OU no longer vouches for the kosher integrity of the item, as the scoop may have been previously used for non-certified flavors.
2. Q: Can I drink coffee at a non-certified restaurant?

Cleveland Heights City Council frusturated with delayed Milikin School lease agreement
City Council members have expressed disappointment in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school board’s failure to finalize a lease agreement with Orthodox Jewish day school Mosdos Ohr Hatorah for the former Millikin School property, nearly a year after a non-binding proposal was approved.
Mosdos has long eyed the 46,555-square-foot Millikin building at 1700 Crest Road, which closed in 2006 as an early childhood center.

Missionary Groups Making the Rounds in the Heights
A large Baptist group from out of state has been making the rounds most recently in Cleveland Heights and University Heights targeting the Jewish community, and handing out literature with Hebrew print or simply leaving it at doorsteps. They claim that they are not affiliated with the “Jews for J” movement.
Also, visit the following link from Jews for Judaism describing the movement called Messianic Visions, a 13 million dollar a year missionary group targeting Jews all over the country.
