Born and raised in Iran, Mr. Yomtovian recently released his book Leaving Iran – A Glimpse Into The Persian Mind which details his experiences growing up as a Jew in Iran. He is a frequent speaker on Iranian and Jewish history, Islamic law and the experience of Iranian-American Muslims and Jews.)

Writing as a first generation Iranian-American, it is my understanding from my many years of required study of Islam as part of my formal education,  that the Islamic Republic of Iran is obligated to follow the orders of its founder and former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, to develop nuclear technology and ultimately a nuclear bomb.  As a result of Khomeini’s order shortly after the chemical attack by Iraqi leader Sadam Hussein in March 1988, Iran’s determination to develop a nuclear program has become a religious and patriotic obligation, in hopes of fulfilling its desire to become a regional super power representing the Islamic world.

We recommend that this valuable list be further distributed to your shul and/or yeshiva in order to avoid the recitation c’v of brachos levatalos, and in order to bring the proper hashpa’ah  and shefa into the world by reciting the correct and proper bracha over the food that you are about to eat or have eaten.  In the zechus of your further promulgation of this list…may you be zoche to brachos ahd bli dai!

To our community at large:
During recent Yom Tovim and Purims of the past there have been no lack of incidents in which bochrim (and others) drank way too much and put themselves in a very dangerous risk, and ended up harming themselves in a host of ways, leading to some seriously risky medical situations.
Therefore, I urge everyone to please take responsibility of your children. If you allow them to drink please make sure it is supervised and never should anyone allow their kids to drink so much to end up in an Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, please be aware that it may be illegal to give alcohol to another person’s child.

Letter from LJN Reader: CH Break-ins

I live on Berkeley Road in Cleveland Heights and our car was broken into last night. Some things were stolen from it and our garage was gone through.  Across the street from us, our neighbor’s house was broken into while people were sleeping in the house. We have had a lot of police here looking into it–B”H for our wonderful police. This is a reminder to lock cars and houses. My husband can’t remember if he locked the car, and I don’t know about my neighbor. I also don’t know if anything else happened last night.  I think if we’re all aware of this activity, we can help each other and the police.
A good Shabbos and a Freilechen Purim!

Shalom America Purim Special With Live Megillah Reading

For the 39th consecutive year, “Phil Fink’s Shalom America” will present a live reading of Megilat Esther – The Story of Esther – on Cleveland radio.  This year’s reading will be part of the weekly two hour broadcast of “Shalom America” broadcast on WELW 1330 AM from  7:00 am – 9:00 AM on Purim day, Sunday, February 24.  Shalom America host Phil Fink will be joined once again by his son and co-host Shawn, the producer of the weekly Jewish-themed program, Dr. Mark Lovinger will return to read the Megillah.

Rebbetzin Becky (Fine) Charlop a”h

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Becky (Fine) Charlop a”h of Cleveland. Mrs. Charlop had battled illness for the last while and was in the ICU of the Cleveland Clinic, with Yidden davening for Rivka Chana bas Devorah Leah.

Mrs. Charlap was a daughter of Rav and Rebbetzin Mordechai Dov Fine, the beloved rov and rebbetzin of Congregation Machzikei Hadas of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
