Jewish day schools under watchful eyes of off-duty, armed officers

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland, starting this school year, is providing security at all five Jewish day schools in Greater Cleveland.
In an Aug. 22 email to parents of students who attend Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, Rabbi Simcha Dessler, educational director of HAC, wrote that enhanced security at the schools is being implemented “thanks to the generosity of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and some private donors.”

With winter just around the corner, here is a link for our senior, disabled, and other eligible neighbors to connect with important resources for “Energy Assistance Programs”.The Western Reserve Area on Aging says: “The most common reason for not receiving energy assistance is that people simply are not aware of the programs available. The confusion created by different sign-up dates, various applications, and the numerous agencies that administer programs makes it difficult for those in need to apply”
This “Guide through the Energy Maze” provides you with information on available energy assistance programs. Each program is described along with its benefits, eligibility rules, and where to go for more information.

Ice bucket case continues to roil OU campus

Since Ohio University Student Senate President Megan Marzec posted an “ice bucket challenge” video last week calling for Ohio University to divest from Israel, students across campus have spoken out — some in defense of Marzec and others calling for her resignation. Four students who are in favor of Marzec resigning attended a student senate meeting Sept. 10 to voice their opinions, but by the end of the night, they found themselves sitting in the Ohio University Police Department.
