New Akron/Canton Airport Ride Sharing

August 10, 2014 Leave a Comment

(Made some improvements to the form based upon user suggestions). Have you ever felt the frustration of driving out to Akron/Canton Airport, only to find your neighbor waiting for the same flight? We can change that! There is a new ride “gemach” planned for the Akron  Canton Airport now in operation.

The goal is to connect people taking the same flight, allowing them to share rides. The service will be run through the Local Jewish News and a form will take your flight and contact information. The form goes to a private email address and is read by a designated volunteer, so your information will never be visible to others. If there’s a match, all parties will receive contact information. The email will be checked only once a day, so the deadline is 24 hours before your flight. We hope this will help make your traveling go much easier!
24 Hours are needed for matches!

Parshas V’eschanon – Lessons In Prayer – Rabbi Moshe Block

August 7, 2014 Leave a Comment

In the beginning of this week’s parsha, Moshe Rabbeinu recounts how he beseeched Hashem to enter the land of Israel. Chazal tell us that the gematria, or numerical value, of the word V’eschanon,” which means, “And I beseeched,” is 515. This corresponds to the 515 prayers Moshe advanced, begging to enter the land of Israel. Ultimately, Moshe Rabbeinu was not allowed to enter as Hashem told him, “Al tosef daber ailai od badavar hazeh.” “Do not continue to speak to me of this matter.” What though, happened to all those prayers? Were they all for naught? Moreover, just a few pesukim later, Moshe tells Klal Yisroel of their superiority over the nations of the world, “Ki mi goy gadol asher lo elokim krovim eilav kaHashem Elokeinu b’chol kar’ainu eilav.” “For which is a great nation that has a God Who is close to it as is Hashem our God, whenever we call to Him.” How can Moshe say this after begging Hashem 515 times and being answered in the negative? I believe this teaches us a fundamental lesson about prayer.
