Dozens of parents and students in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights school district packed the social room at Heights High School on Monday, seeking answers about the middle school consolidation that will take place next school year.
What was named an “information night” by the district was the first public event since the school board voted on Nov. 19 to close Wiley Middle School in University Heights.

The Text of Birchas Hagomeil
(RabbiKaganoff.com) After Eliezer’s (Eved Avraham) extensive travels through the desert, he presumably recited birchas hagomeil. Did he use the same text that we use?
Question #1: Slip up in shul
Not long ago, I received the following question in an e-mail. Upon reciting birchas hagomeil, the individual erred and recited the following:
“Hagomeil tovim, shegemalani kol tuv,” thereby omitting the word lachayavim in “Hagomeil lachayavim tovim.” Must he now repeat the bracha because he omitted a word?

LJN Community Calendar
(Repost from a month ago. So far it is going great. There are tons of events on the calendar including every event posted to LJN!) We are very pleased to announce the debut of the LJN Community Calendar. For a long while, schools and organizations have been asking for an Orthodox community-wide calendar to keep track of events and reduce the amount of double-scheduling.
There is now a page known as Community Calendar (link is at the top of the main page) which will list all events posted to LocalJewishNews as well as all events that are submitted . Events posted to LJN will automatically be added to the calendar, but if something is missing please let us know.

Walmart move shifts burden to South Euclid police
(Cleveland.com)(Ed: Looks like South Euclid has inherited a whole lot of crime and police time in exchange for a development that not everyone really wanted and is not going to really do much for the city. Police have been called already 110 times to the new location!)
The less-than-two-mile move Walmart made from Cleveland Heights to South Euclid is a short distance in driving time but a significant difference for police departments responding to calls from the supermarket giant.
Cleveland Heights police dumped an average of 305 calls for service per year since 2000 from the now-closed Mayfield Road store after the company moved to Warrensville Center Road and opened Oct. 16.
