Hannukah Disaster Averted – Message to the Whole Community About Safety
This evening an unattended menorah (no one was home) caught on fire (the base) in a home in our community. However, B”H due to an amazing circumstance in which a passerby in a car noticed the flaming menorah through the window, stopped his car, and ran in to the home to put out the flame before it spread to the rest of the home, a more serious danger was averted. There were a number of key lessons to be learned here:
1) Don’t leave a menorah unattended. 2) Be particularly careful about menorahs made of wood and glue and paint (a popular young kid project) because these are highly flammable and the nuts used to hold the candles clog easily and do not work so well to form a stable base. 3) Hashem is always watching over us – something else to say thank you for.
Look for a detailed list of Chanukah Safety tips tomorrow.

Amazon Deal on Waring XL Stainless Warming Tray
Amazon has a great deal on the Waring WT90B 400-Watt Stainless-Steel Warming Tray. It usually goes for $60 or more but is now priced at $46! It gets excellent reviews and might be really good for Shabbos as it is 16.5″ long as opposed to the more typical 12″ size. It is adjustable so you may have to ask your Rav about covering the knob but being adjustable it might be more useful than the more heimish made in Israel platas that always seem too hot and scorch the food. Amazon deals change fast so price is not guaranteed.

P’sakim of HaRav Shmuel Kamenetsky, Shlita on Hilchos Chanukah
(Hakhel)
We provide the following p’sakim of HaRav Shmuel Kamenetsky, Shlita, as excerpted from the Sefer Koveitz Halachos by Rabbi Doniel Kleinman, Shlita. As with all Halacha, one should ask his own Rav or Posek for a definitive ruling in his particular case or situation:
1. Although one may not use a combination of oil and candles for his Neiros, one may use different oils on any given night, because they are considered similar enough to each other.
2. One need not use the candle that was used as the candle to light the Neiros Chanukah as his Shamash.
3. Even if the glass cups which are inserted into a Menorah cannot stand on their own because of the narrow piece of glass that fits snugly into the Menorah, one can consider the cup to still be a Kli–for it is specifically manufactured to be used in this way.
