How You Can Help People Living With Gaucher Disease

October 17, 2013 Leave a Comment

StepsAhead(Ed:Maybe the average frum person is not going to wear green shoe laces, but the education still seems a good idea.)

Gaucher disease is a rare inherited disorder caused by a deficiency in a particular enzyme. It is estimated that approximately 1 in 40,000 to 60,000 people in the general population have Gaucher – and it is the most common genetic disease among Ashkenazi Jews. People with the disease often experience severe bone pain and fatigue along with other symptoms.

During October, you can show your support for people affected by Gaucher disease and make a great fashion statement at the same time by taking part in the Steps Ahead of Gaucher effort.  It’s free and fun!  The Steps Ahead of Gaucher program will be distributing free green shoelaces to thousands of people in the coming weeks.

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education (BOE) has announced that it will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The board will first meet in executive session at 5:30 p.m., and then will meet in public session, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the CH-UH Board of Education building, 2155 Miramar Blvd., University Heights.

Wait Remind Me! Why are we waiting for Moshiach?

October 16, 2013 Leave a Comment

(Hakhel)

Chazal teach that one of the six questions that a person is asked after 120 years is Tzipisah L’Yeshuah— did you eagerly await Yeshuas Hashem?” Upon first reflection, we may ask–what does this question mean; after all, do not we talk about the redemption many times throughout our davening daily? It accordingly appears then that Tzipisah L’Yeshuah is at a minimum something more.

Summertime Stalker ARRESTED!!

October 15, 2013 Leave a Comment

jailIn June 2013, LocalJewishNews reported that there was a middle-aged man driving a compact SUV who was seen throughout the CH and UH communities stalking and at times stopping to engage young girls. There were many incidents over several days. There were no incidents of any touching or kidnapping, instead the suspect was seen acting immodestly and using inappropriate language to children, and perhaps luring children near to his vehicle. In fact, many parents did encourage their children to come forward to police. There were some who did see things but neglected or chose not to report what they saw however. Yet despite the strong police presence, and community efforts the suspect was not identified and did not return to the area. But …
