Blum’s Extended Hours in April for Pesach
LJN Community Calendar
(Repost from 2 months ago. So far it is going great. There are tons of events on the calendar including every event posted to LJN!) We are very pleased to announce the debut of the LJN Community Calendar. For a long while, schools and organizations have been asking for an Orthodox community-wide calendar to keep track of events and reduce the amount of double-scheduling.
There is now a page known as Community Calendar (link is at the top of the main page) which will list all events posted to LocalJewishNews as well as all events that are submitted . Events posted to LJN will automatically be added to the calendar, but if something is missing please let us know.
Michelangelo & the Meaning of the New Year 5774 or 2014? The theological debate behind the artist’s masterpiece
(Aish.com)(Ed: This piece will really make you look at the year 2014 in a whole new way and with a new appreciation of the Jewish attitude to the history of the whole world.)
Of all the masterpieces created by Michelangelo surely none is more universally acclaimed than his fresco on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel depicting the creation of Adam.
What most people don’t know, however, is the fascinating story behind Michelangelo’s choice of subject matter – a decision motivated by the artist’s disagreement with the Pope of his time that has relevance to this day as we welcome a new year on what is commonly called the secular calendar.
